Backyard chickens are becoming more and more popular each day especially during these times with many people being stuck at home. The StickerTalk family has even ventured into the amazing world of chickens with four new additions to the crew. They are four Buff Orpington pullets named Maybelle, Dixie, Honey, and Daisy! Chickens are a wonderful new hobby to experiment with because they are easy to tend to, they are super affectionate, and do not forget fresh eggs for breakfast every morning. There are many different breeds and types of chickens, so it is important to do your research before jumping into being a chicken parent. For example, if you want to wake up and collect farm fresh eggs you should go with a breed that lays a lot such as a Leghorn, Rhode Island Red, or maybe a Buff Orpinton, but if you are looking more into a tasty treat rather than a pet a Broiler may be the best option for you. Some chicken breeds are said to make great pets like Orpingtons, Cochins, and Brahmas. However, any chicken breed can be affectionate if you play with them when they are chicks. One way to build a strong bond with your chicken is with delicious treats because the way to a chicken’s heart is through their stomach. Treats are supposed to only make up 10% of a chicken’s diet and some great treats include mashed boiled egg, strawberries, lettuce, blueberries, watermelon, cucumber, tomatoes and the fan favorite food, GRAPES!! Chickens will also be friendlier as long as they are entertained. Perches, swings, and ladders make great additions to a chicken run to provide great quality entertainment. Some other ideas that you can add to spruce up a coop are stumps, logs, and bird toys.  All in all chickens can make a great addition to any family as long as you do your research to find your perfect new best friend!!
