In December, 2019, a new coronavirus made its presence known by infecting humans in Wuhan, China. On January 30, 2020, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services declared the virus to be a “nationwide health emergency.” During what is now being called the Covid-19 Pandemic, heroes have emerged as they always do during a crisis. A hero is a person who is willing to risk his or her own life in order to save others. The Nurses Association states, “Frontline workers perform heroic acts everyday.” That is what our nurses have been doing since the very beginning of this pandemic.
As we sit in the safety of our homes, sheltering in place, our nurses are out on the viral battlefield saving lives and risking their own. The U.S Centers for Disease Control as of April 23, 2020, states that there are 865,585 confirmed cases of coronavirus nationwide and 48,816 deaths. Unfortunately, nurses are among some of those fatalities. How can we really express our heartfelt appreciation other than loudly shouting a unanimous THANK YOU!
